Programming & Linux

September 30, 2009

Recently I’ve gotten very bored of using Windows, really the only thing it’s good for is games and, even then many good games work perfectly fine under Wine, I guess it also helps I prefer older games such as the classic RPG’s like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment. Anyways I installed Ubuntu Linux 9.04 from the free CD’s I recently received (love them stickers they send), as expected the install was super simple and I did not have to configure anything except install the nVidia display drivers and that was a breeze.
Linux is so much nicer than Windows I don’t think I’ll ever go back, I have yet to encounter any problem I cannot fix.

Well seeing has I had Linux installed I decided to do some programming as I hate messing around with IDE’s in Windows and having to mess around with the stupid useless console, I decided to learn one thing that I’ve not had the time to do. Linked lists, despite some minor problems I now have a pretty good understanding of them, really all you need to do is look at some code and have a play around whereas many books and online tutorials are just plain confusing, you can find my first bit of code I done in the programming section.

I’ve also been playing some Dwarf Fortress, I really should try play it more often, it is a great game once you get the hang of things, I working on a fort right now so I’ll post some stuff soon on it, sadly I’ve had one death already, my miner got crushed under some rocks… my fault really.
